ENoLL News
Call for Workshops at OpenLivingLab Days 2018 in Geneva
As in previous editions, ENoLL would like to invite its members, stakeholders and Living Lab practitioners to contribute and co-create the agenda of the conference by submitting a workshop proposal. Workshops will take place during the 2018 edition of OpenLivingLab Days (OLLD18), held in Geneva (Switzerland) from 22nd-24th August. The larger open innovation community (makers, fab labs, open labs…), is also invited to participate in the call, as long as they have a link with co-creation methods and propose hands-on workshops.
We are looking for workshops that help participants advance in learning community-driven innovation, discussing and shaping up future collaborations. This year, we have emphasised on the Sustainable Development Goals from the United Nations. Geneva is the nest of the UN Office and a representative will be present during the conference. Together with the ENoLL community, we can make a big difference!
Important dates
9 April 2018: Official launch of 2018 Call for workshops
04 May 2018 Workshop proposal deadline (extended)
30 May 2018: Acceptance notification
What are the thematics for this year?
We would like to see how Living Labs and the OLLD18 workshops could contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nation, partner of the event. They have proposed 17 goals that you can find here: http://sdg.iisd.org
We have grouped the 17 different thematic in 5 tracks that represent also a focus of our Living Lab community. If you feel that your workshop does not fit in the 5 tracks, please indicate it to us. Remember that the priority will be given to these 5 tracks:
- Track 1 (SD goals 1,2,3,6): Good health and well being
- Track 2 (SD goals 4,5,8,10): Quality education
- Track 3 (SD goals 7,12,14): Affordable & clean energy
- Track 4 (SD goals 9,16,17): Industry, innovation & infrastructure
- Track 5 (SD goals 11,13,15): Sustainable cities & communities
In addition to the 5 tracks, ENoLL accepts other workshop ideas on different topics. Please note that only a few extra-workshops will be accepted, so we strongly encourage you to apply to the “Learning by doing” track first as this will be the key workshop programme for 2018.
How to situate your workshop on the learning curve?
Living Labs are involved in the different phases of a product/service development. We would like to cover all the different phases with workshops to help participants to master methods and tools. We will use the maturity of innovation as a variable, based on Jespersen (2008) for supporting the OLLD18 participants in their selection of workshops[i].
- EXPLORATION: Ideation and concept design: Workshop organisers will overview how to gain as much info as possible on underlying project circumstances, but also how to mix different competencies and stakeholders to brainstorm efficiently and conceptualise the product/service.
- EXPERIMENTATION: Innovating through co-creation: These workshops will delve into Living Lab methodologies and describe how to involve actors of the quadruple helix and end users to design a better product/service in a co-creative and iterative way, with an eye on sustainability and openness.
- EVALUATION: Innovation adoption and evaluation: here the workshops will study how to introduce innovations to target groups and assess their potential on the market. As importantly, insights on Living Lab impact & performance analysis will be given to help demonstrate effectiveness of LL methodologies.
Why should one co-organise a workshop with other Labs?
We encourage applicants to team up with other Labs when proposing a session. You will have the possibility to work on a shared thematic and develop together a fabulous and motivating workshop. We encourage you to work together on the workshop proposal and preparation, from our past experiences, it creates stronger partnerships among LLs and leverages common opportunities. It can be a Living Lab that you already know or you can also browse the Living Lab members list on our website, by country or by thematic to organise a workshop together. What a nice way to get in touch! It will be appreciated if a representative of an ENoLL active Living Lab or of an active open innovation actor (maker, fablab, open lab,..) is involved as responsible, co-responsible or member of the organisation committee of any submitted proposal.
How will the workshop proposal be evaluated?
The Evaluation Committee will give priority to hands-on, co-creative workshops involving participants in collaborative activities. A bonus will be given to workshops proposed by more than one Living Lab. Therefore, it is important to state clearly in your application what methodologies are being used, and/or how the participants are engaged throughout the workshop.
Workshop proposals will be evaluated by the OpenLivingLab Days Organising Committee based on criteria including: quality and level of details of the proposed idea, theme of the workshop, its relevance to the Call for workshops and the overall balance of the conference program.
