Interested in how to explore the City as a Living Lab approach? Brought to you by the European Network of Living Labs and Barcelona City Council, the event “Why Labs? Empowering citizens as drivers of innovation” will take place on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM in Brussels.
The European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities (EIP-SCC) brings together cities, industry and citizens to improve urban life through more sustainable integrated solutions. This includes applied innovation, better planning, a more participatory approach, higher energy efficiency, better transport solutions, intelligent use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
The multitude of challenges facing European cities directly impact the citizens who live there. Citizens are at times contributors to urban issues, through their behavior and demography. They are also a crucial component in solutions, offering immense aggregate power from their behavioral change, education, engagement, participation and empowerment.
The ‘Citizen Focus’ EIP SCC action cluster is about industries, civil society, and different layers of government working together with citizens to realize public interests at the intersection of ICT, mobility and energy in an urban environment. The cluster consists of initiatives across Europe working to ensure cities are inclusive of their citizens – enabling them to create and problem-solve and facilitating conversation between stakeholders, so citizens’ voices are not only heard, but instrumental in solution design and it is the context of the ‘Citizen Focus’ action cluster, that we co-organise this workshop.
ENoLL is one of the most active networks empowering citizens as drivers of innovation in city ecosystems this workshop is a great occasion to showcase the role of Labs as tools for citizen engagement. We strongly encourage Living Labs working in the domain of smart cities and urban innovation to join us at “Why Labs? Empowering citizens as drivers of innovation in Smart Cities” on April 15th in Brussels.
