CityLAB Graz (Innovations for urban quality of life) is a private non-profit research and innovation platform in the context of urban development processes. Our goal is to raise the quality of life in cities / city districts by fostering urban innovations at different levels of society. We support an interdisciplinary, creative and critical discourse around the sustainable city of tomorrow (“Smart City”). The acceptance and successful realisation of „Smart Cities“ require coordinated interactions of humans and technology – of social and technological urban innovations. We are convinced that cooperative and integrative urban development processes involving different actors of society – public authorities, companies, science, NGOs, civic organisations – lead to better and more innovative results. Therefore, networking, cooperation and providing impulses play an important role in our work.

CityLAB Graz develops and implements projects in urban environments in collaboration with clients and cooperation partners. In our projects we mainly address the four thematic areas mapped below.

Methologies

We define ourselves as an Innovation Lab, therefore, we follow different principles of „urban living labs“ in our daily work:

  • Long-term, strategic partnerships between urban stakeholders: Urban transformation takes place over a longer period of time. This process requires long-term partnerships based on a shared vision, mutual trust and enhanced cooperation at eye level.
  • Leave the seminar room and organize your meeting on-site: Depending on the project, we create accessible, low-threshold spaces for learning and cooperation in which stakeholders are able to develop and implement solutions together.
  • Knowledge transfer, experimentation and prototyping: Complex questions imply in general multiple responses. Whenever possible, we try out and test innovative urban solutions in a real-life context, making changes visible, thus accelerating innovation.
  • sustainable cities as a goal: The city of the future is resource and energy-efficient, compact, mixed, inclusive and resilient.

Thursday, 14 Mar 2024
Online
This is a role-play where each participant will embody a key figure in society. Together, we will collaboratively craft strategies aimed at fostering a sustainable future by envisioning the world in 2050. The focus lies on various cities worldwide, each poised for a green transition. Through dialogue and negotiation, the aim is to forge agreements that pave the way for necessary actions and initiatives.
