The Galician Network of Health Living Labs – LABSAUDE, is an initiative promoted by the Public Health Authority of Galicia (Regional Government of Galicia) that turns the Galician hospitals and health centres into real environments for testing innovative solutions as a previous step to access the market.
The network:
– improve business opportunities, develop user-driven innovations and facilitate cooperation between the Galician health system, business, and other stakeholders;
– combines different stakeholders to test and develop user-driven products for patients in real-life contexts;
– allows the end-users (patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals) to participate actively in the product development and usability testing processes.
Our Living labs are located in the region of Galicia, situated in the northwest of Spain. Our projects are supported by the welfare resources of the Galician Health System, which provides
great value and strength: 14 hospitals, 500 primary care centers, 90 emergency centers, 36,000
healthcare professionals, 7,700 practitioners distributed in 7 Health Areas.
The first of our Living Labs is in the Hospital of Ourense where a space has been reserved for the development of an experimental hospitalization. This hospital has accessible, efficient, innovative and self-sustainable facilities, which provide the necessary medical equipment to test new healthcare technologies: an experimental nursing station, experimental rooms, a multi- sensorial stimulation room, a therapeutic garden, a Co-creation space, among others.
The choice of Ourense as the headquarters of this first Living Lab of the LABSAÚDE network is not accidental, it is due to its demographic characteristics, with high levels of dispersion and ageing. The current casuistry of this province can be considered a reflection of what the Spanish and European population will be in 2050. This make this province an exceptional laboratory for the development and application of technologies related to the empowerment of patients and related to the healthy ageing, as well as new therapies and technologies that respond to the assistance and socio-health needs of Galicia.
