The Taiwanese government has recently funded the CHC to produce a four-year strategic plan for the emerging health promotion industry in Taiwan. To advance this emerging industry, the CHC decided to establish a living lab, located in the new Chiayi Industrial Research and Development Center, which will develop new biotech, energy, cosmetics, nutrition and high-end agricultural industries.

The center contains a human resource training area and a prototype factory. Both buildings finished build last year. A third building which will primarily be used for research and development is estimated to be finished in 2011. The Center is to integrate across different disciplines, the R&D facility includes food research, metal research, advanced machining research and bicycle technology. In addition, three major universities in Chiayi, the University of Chiayi, National Chung Cheng University and Wu-Feng University are included as their R&D facility will continually push for additional new developments providing a greater competitive advantage for the emerging industry.

Commissioned by the CHC in December, 2010, Smart Life Lab inc. is undertaking an assessment study of a health promotion living lab at the Center. The study includes the global development of living labs, international best practices and localization analysis. For best practice, the study is currently analyzing three cases in Finland: the City of Jyvaskyla, ENoLL Council Member Snowpolis and the VTT’s FeelGood project. Other cases may be recommended by the members of the European Network of Living Labs. Through these collaborative efforts, the CHC is anticipating development of a unique health promotion living lab and meeting needs of an ageing society in Taiwan.

About Smart Life Lab inc.

We aspire to be a smart life lab for the general public. Without soul, music is nothing but meaningless patterns; without human factors, product design is nothing but awkward technology.

In 2010, we were selected as the official supplier of the Taipei International Flora Exposition and the grant winner of the SBIR Taipei, and were invited to join the European Network of Living Labs. By including human factors in our design, we will make the best use of simple and advanced technology to mitigate discomfort in daily life.
