ENoLL was present at the sixth edition of the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), on 15-17 November in Fira de Barcelona. The event was visited by more than 16,000 people and brought together 600 cities from five continents in the biggest-ever gathering of municipal authorities in the event’s history.
With the presence of cities from five continents, SCEWC has consolidated itself as an essential meeting point and a crucial bridge for sharing smart experiences and exemplary practices among the cities and territories of the world. It has also hosted some of the leading companies in the sectors of mobility, communications and technology, such as Cisco, Microsoft, Fiware, MasterCard, Philips, Seat, Siemens, Telefónica, Suez, SAP and Telekom.
The event focused its sixth edition on the strategies and tools available to promote the empowerment of citizens and a greater involvement and participation in municipal processes and design.
ENoLL was one of the 500+ exhibitors as we shared a booth with Creative Ring partners.
The three-day event was successful for ENoLL and our members. We have received many inquiries about the network which will soon expand with the 11th wave. Next to that, participants were also curious to know more about the project that ENoLL is involved in. We have presented our ongoing projects – PELARS, FIWARE, CreatiFi and iSCAPE which cover a wide range of interests and fields.
Our effective members also had an opportunity to present their Living Labs at the booth to the Smart City Expo visitors.
On the first day of the Smart City Expo, Consorcio Fernando de los Rios, Energy Living Lab, Basaksehir Living Lab and Eindhoven Living Lab were presenting their Living Labs at the ENoLL booth. At the end of the first day, the European Commission representative introduced the iCapital Award for cities. The award will be given to the city most willing to experiment with new and innovative citizen-driven initiatives, providing itself as a ‘test-bed’ for potential solutions to relevant societal challenges.
Parallel to the activities which took place in our booth, ENoLL also ran a dedicated session entitled “Scaling-up social innovation through Living Labs” on 16 November. The session was moderated by our President Tuija Hirvikoski (Laurea University of Applied Sciences) and energised by speakers like Artur Serra (i2CAT) and Wim De Kinderen (Brainport Eindhoven EU).
During the last two days Forum Virium Helsinki, Bristol Living Lab (presenting their Tips and Tricks pictured bellow), Laurea Living Labs network and Botnia Living Lab presented their Living Lab activities at ENoLL booth. Have a look at all the photos from the Smart City Expo on our Flickr page.
We would like to thank all of our members who participated at the Smart City Expo with us for great work and presentation of the network and its Living Labs. We will see you next year!
