Last week Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC) in Bristol, England, hosted an exciting 1 day ‘Culture Jam’ workshop together with ENoLL as a part of the project Europeana Creative; a project dedicated to encouraging the reuse of digitised cultural herritage content. The Bristol Jam was unique to other Jams being held across Europe as this event was exclusively for young people aged 14 and 15 working with schools from across Bristol.
On the day young people worked in small teams to generate and present their ideas on reuse, then brought those closer to reality by creating prototypes including sample clothes & shoes, app designs, modelling and sculpture, lasercut designs and more. Participants were supported and collaborated with a team associates ranging from fashion designers, game designers, programmers, engineers and artists throughout the day to re-use on various different mini workshops encouraging the reuse of local and Europeana digital heritage in a new and innovative ways.
Below is an example of just two of the great prototypes developped on the day: first a playground designed by the young people together with an engineer inspired by old buildings and photographs from the area.
and also a laser cut car designed by the young people based on the designs of an old model car from the Europeana archives. The idea is that this would be a modern version of a collectable toy cars that many people collect that you can print anywhere maximising its reach and enjoyment potential.
We had a great day filled with creativity we look forward to selecting a representative from the event to represent Bristol at the Europeana Creative final event in Vienna on the 9th and 10th of July.
ENoLL will be hosting another event together with Krakow technology park on Saturday June 20th. See the dedicated event website for more information.
