One year after being created, the Lighting Living Lab (LLL) is working on two projects: the Project SIGLuzEE and another one still without name, on Open Standards of Street Lighting Management Systems. Beside these projects, on the 19th of May, the LLL is organizing a workshop dedicated to the new bridges between Lighting, Ceramics and Materials. This initiative is hosted by the Águeda School of Technology and Management, starting at 16h30. The workshop will have as speakers the Prof. Luiz Pereira, of University of Aveiro, and Prof. Hugo Águas from the “Center of Expertise in Microelectronics, Optoelectronics and Processes” located in Lisbon. Participation is free, but must be confirmed through the e-mail [email protected].
The ongoing projects
The Project SIGLuzEE is creating a Geographic Information System dedicated to the cadastre of street lighting, applied to the municipality of Águeda. The system will have up to date information about geographical location, energy consumption, illumination characteristics, among others, permitting a qualified and informed management of street lighting, achieving higher energy efficiency, service quality and an easier access to new lighting technologies and applications. Furthermore, this system will transform Águeda in a space of experimentation of new technologies and lighting solutions to be developed by the LLL and others, in a real world environment, with real world users.
The first phase of the Project SIGLuzEE is being worked on by the Águeda School of Technology and Management, with the support of students from the degree in Information Technologies. They are developing the basis of the Geographical Information System, using Open Source software along with other related applications, like a web interface; this first phase is expected to end in June 2010.
As for the project on Open Standards of Street Lighting Management Systems, there is a workgroup constituted by Águeda City Council, as end-user, and the companies Climar, Exporlux, Globaltronic, and Lightenjin, all members of the LLL. The firm Arquiled, which is not member of LLL, was also invited to work with the group. This workgroup has as guiding objectives: the identification of user needs; study of proprietary solutions; creation of a proposal for an Open Standard; promotion of the proposal; final development of the Open Standard.
