The European FIRE initiative is a critical pillar of Net Futures within Horizon 2020. With more than 15 current projects, 14 new projects starting in January 2016, and the recent launch of the 2016 – 2017 work programme, FIRE continues to provide major research and innovation opportunities for companies and researchers.

At the heart of FIRE are the experimental facility projects establishing hubs for experimentally driven technology innovation in areas such as advanced networking, IoT and cloud infrastructures, and their use within a wide range of application areas including smart city, education, emergency management, and land / air / underwater monitoring. The diversity of FIRE facility projects and applications and the evolving federation of facilities create an exciting opportunity to explore converged infrastructures and research challenges associated with resource management, interoperability, and Experimentation-as-a-Service concepts, and more generally the emerging technology trends of the Future Internet.

The objective of this FIRE Forum 2015, which takes place on the 9th of December 2015 in Brussels, is to bring together representatives of FIRE projects, the European Commission and other stakeholders and initiatives to discuss the further development of experimental facilities, research and innovation, and how a federated European experimental infrastructure will drive innovation.

This event will also give the opportunity to newcomers to network with key players in the FIRE arena in view of the ICT-2016 Call and will provide information about a number of Open Calls that ongoing FIRE projects will open towards the end of 2015/beginning of 2016.
