EU Digital Agenda Goes Local – Living Labs as tools for Local and Regional Development

The EU Digital Agenda for Europe is the European Union’s road map for bringing the benefits of a digital society and economy to Europe’s citizens. But it can only deliver if all stakeholders are involved in assessing problems and identifying solutions.

The EU Digital Agenda for Europe is the European Union’s road map for bringing the benefits of a digital society and economy to Europe’s citizens. But it can only deliver if all stakeholders are involved in assessing problems and identifying solutions.

The main objectives of the Assembly were to:

• Assess progress to date on delivery towards the Digital Agenda’s goals and actions and seek ways to improve delivery;
• Identify challenges ahead for the implementation of the Digital Agenda and for the information society in general;
• Mobilise stakeholders’ actions to make further progress and address challenges.

The European Commission therefore invited a broad range of participants from industry, the research community and NGOs, as well as representatives from Member State governments, and the other EU institutions to assess progress in meeting the targets of the Digital Agenda. This, first Digital Agenda Assembly took place in Brussels on 16^th and 17^th June 2011.
