The Living-in.EU Movement will be present at the Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) 2025, one of the leading global events for cities, digital transformation, and urban innovation.
SCEWC brings together government representatives, industry leaders, urban planners, and researchers from around the world to exchange ideas, showcase cutting-edge solutions, and advance sustainable, inclusive, and smart urban development. With a rich programme of exhibitions, thematic sessions, and networking opportunities, the event acts as a global hub for collaboration on the future of cities.
For the Living-in.EU Movement, being at SCEWC is a strategic opportunity to reinforce its mission of supporting interoperable digital transformation across all levels of public administration. The event provides a valuable space to share ongoing initiatives, engage with key stakeholders, and promote the collective effort to build human-centric, digitally empowered cities across Europe.
AI is reshaping all spheres of our live, including our cities, inside and out. Local governments and their administrations are striving to keep up, looking at how AI can improve local policies and services. As its popularity soars, the spotlight has been particularly on Generative AI (GenAI), which can generate original outputs like high-quality text, images, and videos. Its impact is recognised in the private sector, but less so within the public sector.
As the level of public administration closest to citizens and as providers of many services, cities and regions can champion the responsible development and deployment of GenAI technologies in Europe. Many cities have started exploring the possibilities, but with different approaches to integrating AI in their work. While some are investing in Copilot for Microsoft 365, others are experimenting with open tools and technologies or considering both.
Living-in.EU is the community of European cities and regions working together on accelerating digital transformation at local level. Living-in.EU members are championing the use of advanced digital technologies to speed up their journey to a greener, more sustainable, and just future.
In this session, Living-in.EU will bring together local authorities to share their experience so far in using GenAI to support and increase efficiency of internal processes, enhance public services and personalized citizen-centric service delivery, support decision-making and data-driven urban planning, or even interact with citizens. The city representatives will share their approach, which GenAI applications they deploy, what challenges they are encountering, how they tackle the ethical considerations, the potential of these applications for scale-up, and their take on “AI made in Europe”.
