ALTHEA elevates peri-urban areas at the centre of Europe’s transition to climate neutrality.
Based on the Transition Super Living Lab approach, the project gathers regional stakeholders to turn peri-urban territories into dynamic testing grounds where innovation, collaboration and digital tools support systemic change.
ALTHEA helps Mission Cities develop and implement cross-sectoral solutions that are aligned with their Climate City Contracts. It also supports them in shaping long-term strategies and Local Green Deals that connect urban and peri-urban spaces in a mutually beneficial way.
Through a strong multi-level governance approach, ALTHEA empowers local authorities, businesses, researchers and communities to co-design climate neutral pathways that work in real-life and across entire regions.
ENoLL’s primary contribution to the ALTHEA project is leading the monitoring of mutual learning and knowledge sharing across the project’s Transition Super Living Labs. This involves collecting lessons learned from five peri-urban areas piloting sustainable mobility, decarbonised energy, industrial decarbonisation and cross-sectoral governance solutions, then translating these insights into a structured knowledge sharing plan of online workshops and in-person exchanges. This work directly supports three replicator cities in adopting and adapting the approaches tested by the lead sites.
Beyond monitoring, ENoLL also leads communication and dissemination for the project, shaping its visual identity, website and social media presence while coordinating outreach to policymakers, the scientific community and other stakeholders. ENoLL is additionally responsible for formalising a Memorandum of Understanding between the Transition Super Living Labs and the Cities Mission Platform, strengthening collaboration and co-creation across the initiative. This work will help position peri-urban areas as key drivers in Europe’s transition to climate neutrality.
