The European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL) is the international, non-profit, independent association of benchmarked Living Labs.
Servicios Sociales Integrados, S. Coop. (Grupo SSI) is a cooperative company set up in Bilbao in 1986, to respond to the social needs of people in situations of dependence and social vulnerability, and their families, in Euskadi. S.S.I. The Group and the entities that belong to it (Aurrerantz, S. Coop. de Iniciativa Social, Aurrerantz Asociación, Euskarri, S. Coop. Empresa de Inserción and Home Care Lab, S. Coop.) promoted the creation of the Living Lab to enrich and strengthen the innovation capacities of the Group around ageing and dependence and improve its competitiveness. Specifically, Home Care Lab, S. Coop., the Group’s R&D&I business unit, is one of the most important actors that make up the Living Lab. Home Care Lab, S. Coop. is boosted by the Living Lab, experimenting, and carrying out drills of the daily activities dependent people, the carers, and their families face. The Living Lab is a pioneering infrastructure in Euskadi that attempts to simulate the different rooms of a home with advanced technology. It has 100 sqm and adapted beds and baths, a hydraulic motor cranes, a modular kitchen, etc., resources that are equipped with technological advances that make it easier to care for elderly dependent people. It also has user friendly touch screen computers that avoid having to use a mouse and keyboard for people with reduced mobility, and that using software allow carrying out videoconferences. Its most innovating technological characteristic is a hydraulic motor crane system that hung from the ceiling can move the dependent users from their wheelchair to any room in the simulated home.
