K8 focuses on process and systems design. As a research institute, it sees aesthetics as a strategic tool for analysis, problem solving and value creation. Within its systems design framework, K8 offers four complementary domain-specific Living Lab approaches reflecting these four core areas of applied research and innovation:

1) Data Cultures; 2) Experience Design; 3) Learning Processes; 4) Regenerative Economy

In its research it cooperates with partners working in domains related to culture, technology, business and environment. Its multidisciplinary team supports idea and concept development (think tank), finds ways to put these ideas and concepts into practice (transfer) and helps others build future skills (capacity building). Its results become tangible in exhibitions, festivals, learning laboratories and workshops.
