Rijeka Innovation Living Lab (RiILL), hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Rijeka, is a user-centered, open-innovation ecosystem designed to support sustainable urban and economic transformation. Grounded in the quadruple-helix model, RiILL brings together academia, government, businesses, and citizens to co-create, test, and scale solutions in real-life settings. It serves as a dynamic platform for applied research, digital innovation, and community-driven experimentation.
Structured around seven thematic labs, RiILL addresses twelve interconnected research areas, including smart cities, regenerative economy, smart governance, digital transformation, AI and data engineering, and the EU Green Deal. Its mission is to foster participatory innovation through living pilots, co-creation workshops, and knowledge transfer activities that directly support public and private sector transformation.
RiILL’s work is deeply embedded in the local and regional context, aligning with Rijeka’s development strategy and the broader Adriatic-Ionian innovation agenda. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and real-world experimentation, RiILL acts as a catalyst for inclusive, green, and digitally empowered futures.
