User Driven Open Innovation for SMEs In Advanced Service-product development

More than 80 people mostly SMEs and Living Labs met, discussed and made plans to make the Living Labs of ENoLL a central mechanism for supporting SMEs’ business idea development at the ESoCE-Net Industrial Forum User Driven Open Innovation For SMEs In Advanced Service-product development (Rome, 6 – 7th December 2010).

During the event a Manifesto was launched: “You can Learn to Innovate”, which consists of a radically new policy and business approach to innovation process. Now we innovate without learning and we learn without innovate. But more and more these two processes need each other. We can learn to innovate and we need to innovate through joint mechanisms between users and technologists. “You Can Learn to Innovate” is a new message addressed to the technologies and the users, to the entrepreneurs and the citizens that we need all of us a new approach to the innovation culture. We can, we need, to learn to innovate together.

In addition, ESoCE-Net is experimenting a Living Lab Prize approach that awards best business ideas relevant to Living Labs and, notably, provides the opportunity to conduct “reality check” pilots in best fitting Living Lab environments. The winners of the GNSS Living Lab Prize and other finalists have presented their innovative services for Health Energy and Media integrating ICT advanced technology with the Navigation services offered by Galileo.

In particular, the event on the 7th of December was dedicated to a specific Match Making possibility among SMEs and Living Labs. SMEs holding a business idea chaired dedicated multi-stakeholder tables to identify practical steps forward for the launch of joint initiatives and to discuss and negotiate terms and conditions for conducting reality checks trials.

Living Labs can now submit their proposal by 15 January 2010.
