Artur Serra Hurtado
Deputy Director I2cat Foundation

I participated in the creation of the European Network of Living Lab in Helsinki November 2006. Since then I’ve been leading the creation of a Living Lab in the region of Catalonia as Deputy Director of the i2cat Foundation. I2cat was the first Spanish Living Lab recognised by ENoLL and it has help to generate a community of more than 10 Living Labs in Spain.

My background is in techno-anthropology.  In 2022 I’ve created at i2cat a group called Digital Society Technologies, currently leaded by Marta Martorell. This group sees Living Labs as a transformative digital social innovation.  Currently we are conducting with the regional government since 2019 the research project Catalunya Collaboratory, based in the vision of our region as a universal Living Lab.

I’ve participated since 2011 in the Board of Directors of ENoLL trying to expand the reach of Living Labs at the European level organising the following activities:

-Two OLLDs in Catalonia, first in Citilab in 2010 and a second one in Barcelona in 2023.

  • Two Mediterranean Living Labs meetings, one in Barcelona and the second one in Turkey.
  • Currently I’m leading the ENoLL Action Oriented Task Force in Social Innovation and Digital Rights where we have established a collaboration with the European School of Social Innovation to work for a triple green, digital and social transition in the EU.
  • Finally, I’m working with ENoLL promoting its global reach, in particular in Latin America and  Africa, where we are developing a network of Living Labs in Senegal with FDSUT, connected with the UN Pact for the Future agenda.
