Fablab Treviso (UNIS&F Lab)

Fablab Treviso (UNIS&F Lab)

UNIS&F Lab is the experiential Laboratory of Unindustria Servizi & Formazione Treviso Pordenone, the service and training company of the Industrial Association of the provinces of Treviso and Pordenone that count over 3,000 member companies. UNIS&F Lab is 1,600 square meters of a fully equipped covered area and 2,800 square meters of outdoor area.

UNIS&F LAB is a structure dedicated to experiential learning and innovation activities, with projects ranging from analysis sensory, 3D printing also applied to the field medical, the Lean methodology, the issues of safety at work, and much more. The activity of UNIS&F LAB develops in two directions:

1. Traditional training area with courses mainly for the Production, Logistics, and Technology area;

2. Experiential Area which includes training courses on Prototyping and FAB LAB (Reference point for the development of innovation and exchange of ideas providing a place to make new creative processes; EUROISA – European Institute of Sensory Analysis; Lean & Logistics; Safety (an area dedicated to training in the field of security – first aid, fire-fighting, warehouse, office, etc.).

UNIS&F Lab is an experiential training center, and to that extent its activities are carried out by experiencing situations, tasks, tools, and spaces where the user is an active protagonist and can develop and acquire the skills right in the moment he reaches his aims. Through the use of the available spaces and technologies, the user deals with practical situations developing problem-solving and creative skills.

UNIS&F Lab collects participants with the publication of various initiatives: open meetings, training courses, in-depth workshops on various topics. After building a base of stakeholders interested in the themes and activities of the laboratory, we proceed to identify more depth issues and initiatives at the suggestion of the various actors involved.

For example, within FabLab Treviso, 3D printers and post production workshop are available to users who want to develop their own practical projects; Euroisa develops sensory analysis on products that the companies want to develop and make; inside the Lean & Logistics space the students can approach the Lean Thinking methodology, analyzing firsthand the difference between optimized and not optimized processes.

The objects produced at FabLab Treviso are tested and used in practical contexts, in order to discover any problems or improvement. Many makers of FabLab are private citizens developing their projects based on the needs identified in their daily lives.

The sensorial analysis of Euroisa enable companies of the food industry to conduct analysis of the product, not only in the laboratory but especially in the private kitchens of sensorial judges, who can give a more accurate and useful feedback than the customary tastings offered in supermarkets.

The methods used in UNIS&F Lab allow various stakeholders to profit from the comparison and participation that come from the experiences of other actors involved. UNIS&F Lab amplifies the possibilities for improvement of companies and individuals, but at the same time exposes pre-existing problems and demands an investment in terms of human and material resources from the participants. We are definitely limited in dealing with this problems, and we think that joining the European Network of Living Labs is a good opportunity to learn from the experiences of other European lab.
