Survey on cultural events by Mandela 27-initiative of the European Culture Programme

23/09/2024

European Culture Programme financed project Mandela 27 – A Cultural Experience Across the EU and South Africa” is gathering information on cultural events across Europe.

The Mandela 27 project is supported by EU Culture program. The partnership intends to create a small travelling exhibition, based on the dimensions of Nelson Mandela’s cell in Robben Island prison. We will create a serious game and a digital presentation timeline, to be placed in the exhibition, covering the period of Mandela’s incarceration from 1963 to 1990. This period coincides approximately with the formation of the EU from the Treaty of Rome in 1958 to the Treaty of Maastricht 1992. The goal is to draw a picture of cultural events that have influenced the formation of democracy in the 27 countries of the European Union and post-apartheid South Africa.

The project wishes to highlight one or two examples from each EU country from for example; literature, film, music, theatre, sport, architecture etc that were prominent during this period.

You can join this initiative by answering the short questionnaire in the context of your own country and the EU here (access the survey by clicking the link).

Replies specifically welcomed from the following countries:

  •  Czech Republic
