SELECT for Cities – how to participate

SELECT for Cities (Standardized, open, data-driven, service-oriented & user-centric platform enabling large-scale Co-creation, Testing & validation of IoE services for Cities) is a 3 year project co-funded by the participant cities themselves (Antwerp, Copenhagen and Helsinki) as well as the European Commission. With a budget of 5.6 million euro, budget dedicated to the innovation challenge, the project proposes through a pre-commercial procurement (PCP) to procure the research and development of new innovative solutions capable of realising the goal having of the city as a large Internet of Everything Lab and putting it into practice. The period for PCP is from December 2015 and November 2018 and it will be divided into 3 competition stages.

The project is now in the preparation phase where an open market consultation is conducted in order to check the SELECT for Cities challenge with the market. On May 24th more than 60 people gathered at Digipolis’ Antwerp offices to take part in the inaugural open consultation meeting. This interactive event provided the first opportunity for potential suppliers to meet the procuring cities (Antwerp, Copenhagen and Helsinki) and learn more about the projects forthcoming competition and to discuss the feasibility of city ambitions.

Dirk Diels, the Director business and innovation at City of Antwerp launched the event with a plenary session outlining the SELECT for Cities challenge – design, create and develop cities as linked, large scale Internet of Everything (IoE) Labs. He reminded participants of Antwerps vision of being a beta city and proudly claimed that with the help of innovation experts, Digipolis and iMinds, “if it works in Antwerp, it works anywhere”!

This meeting formed part of a wider series of activities, including an open survey(now closed) and supplier workshops in each of the procuring cities: Antwerp, Copenhagen (https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/f2f-select-omc-copenhagen-registration-23192895575) and Helsinki (https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/f2f-select-omc-helsinki-registration-23185102265). The SELECT for Cities tender is expected to be launched in November 2016.
