We are saddened by the news that Dr. Alvaro Oliveira, the second President of ENoLL and Chairman of the Council, has passed away.
During his tenure in the early years of ENoLL, the association took significant steps to become a legal body and establishing its stronghold as an internationally recognized network for Living Labs.
Globalization of the Living Lab movement was one of its key priorities. This manifested in multiple Memorandum’s of Understandings with organisations such as the Beijing City Administration Information System and Equipment Center, the Chinese Future Internet and IoT initiative, the Food and Agricultural Organization of United Nations, Living Labs in Southern Africa, Asian Smart Living Summer School and the World Bank to name a few. Through these initiatives, ENoLL began building international networks and offering exceptional opportunities to European SMEs and the broader EU RDI community.
In the words of Dr. Oliveira for the Activity Report 2011 “our ambition is no less than to set worldwide standard in open and user-driven innovation, while staying true to our core values of bottom-up processes and embracing the openness of our community”.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and everyone who knew him.
The European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL) is the international, non-profit, independent association of benchmarked Living Labs.
