Marta de los Rios White has joined ENoLL in March 2018 and will work for us until the end of May. She has joined ENoLL through a project –UNaLab in which ENoLL is introducing co-creative methods and guiding European cities on how to establish Urban Living Labs. We asked Marta to talk about her expectations and experiences. This is what she had to say.
I got to know ENoLL thanks to my thesis supervisor, Dr. Peter Roebeling from Aveiro University who has had contact with ENoLL due to the UNaLab project. When we were evaluating potential contacts and options for my thesis, we realized that it was aligned with the projects that ENoLL is working with, and also with their expertise and services, so he helped me with the contact.
I am a Process Engineer and after working for some years in Colombia, I decided to become a student again, and I’m finishing an international Joint European Masters in Sustainable Cities (JEMES – CiSu) with 4 different universities in Europe. I am very interested in sustainable process improvement with an used centered approach, and I am passionate about improving urban settings and liveability and cities.
My main task at ENoLL is to help with the creation of the UNaLab Urban Living Lab (ULL) Toolkit. The toolkit will provide collaborative co-creation and experimentation method, techniques and tools for cities to develop ULL for Nature Based Solutions (NBS). I will also be supporting the ENoLL team in some of the other projects with co-creation and administrative related tasks.
The objective of my thesis identify the stages of the Life Cycle of Co-Creation Process for NBS. The other two components of the thesis will be the identification of the stakeholders that should take part during each stage of the life cycle and a proposal of some tools that can be used for stakeholder engagement during each stage. The thesis is framed under the UNaLab project, so working directly with the toolkit will provide me tools to complement my thesis.
At the end of my internship I hope to have a better understanding of co-creation and design thinking methods and tools that can be applied to cities and living labs.
