“Co-creating competitive business models and services for a physiotherapy company” course

Laurea was elected to organize a course “CO-CREATING COMPETITIVE BUSINESS MODELS AND SERVICES FOR A PHYSIOTHERAPY COMPANY” at World Confederation for Physical Therapy.

Science and technology will inevitably be the tools in the future for physiotherapy
companies. However, it is argued that the idea of customer-centered value, will spur the most
meaningful changes in the healthcare systems and medical technology. Physiotherapy is not
immune to these changes. This course will deal with the customer-centered business model in
physiotherapy.

Learning Objectives

Learning objective 1: To enhance business development skills
Learning objective 2: To learn new methods to co-create with customers
Learning objective 3: To establish a physiotherapy Living lab

Before the course, participants will receive an optional pre-task. Pre-task will clarify the current
status of the participants business models and development skills in order to fine-tune the
workshop content to meet the identified needs. Participants are also welcome to join the workshop
without fulfilling the pre-task.

DURING THE COURSE:

Multiple theoretical models to develop business models have been suggested especially in a form
of “canvas”. Therefore the workshop follows theory triangulation approach – the combination of
multiple methodologies -in order to co-create competitive business model for physical therapy
companies. “Business model canvas”, “Lean canvas”, “Service business model canvas” and
“Service logic business model canvas” as well as various other service design tools are introduced
and in practice used during the workshop activities. Furthermore, Living lab development approach
as a tool to engage customers to co-creation process is introduced by revealing the latest findings
from ProVaHealth project. The ProVaHealth project includes 14 health and wellbeing Living labs
from the Baltic Sea region and facilitates the access to Living Labs for startups and small and
medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

Implications / Conclusions:

After the course, participants (and others) are encouraged to establish a “Physical Therapy Living lab” WCPT network. This network would also collaborate closely with European Network of Living Labs by following open science principles to co-create novel solutions and business models for Physical Therapy companies and their partners.
